Double podium finish for Frank Wrathall at Knockhill, Fife!

Frank Wrathall has once again secured a memorable victory and maximum Independent points this weekend, with a double podium finish at the seventh round of the British Touring Car Championships 2011 at the well-known Knockhill race track in Fife, Scotland. The weekend marked yet another milestone for promising driver Frank and the Dynojet team, after an outstanding performance on Saturday’s qualifying rounds despite poor weather conditions. After securing a well-deserved third place on the grid for the race one, Frank finished fourth due to early contact in the opening laps, but was able to clearly demonstrate the top 10 pace of the NGTC Toyota Avensis making his presence felt by BTCC leaders Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden. Starting from fourth on the grid in race two the 24 year old Lancastrian quickly took third position after taking advantage of an error made by the Focus of Tom Chilton, which allowed the famous orange and black Avensis to apply pressure to the leading Hondas in front.

After crossing the line in third place the rising star sponsored by Angel Springs, the UK’s longest established Water Cooler Company, took his place on the podium to celebrate his Independent class victory for the best finish and fastest lap for a car built to the NGTC regulations. Frank commented, “That is a massive result for us,” he said, “not just because we are on the podium, but because we showed we were as quick as anyone and were close to being able to take a victory.” Race three saw the Toyota start from fifth place due to the ‘reverse grid’ draw. Frank held a strong fifth until securing an early fourth place position when Chevrolet’s Plato went off the track in lap four. Frank then bided his time until cleverly moving into third place, again taking out race one winner Tom Chilton at Scotsman corner successfully finishing in third and taking his second podium position of the weekend. Delighted with the weekends results Frank had these comments, “I really feel like I’m a BTCC driver after this weekend,” said Frank. “We mixed it towards the front of the field in all three sessions on Saturday despite changing weather conditions and then we’ve been right in the mix throughout race day. Taking two podium finishes – and setting a fastest lap – is a fantastic achievement for the team at this stage of the programme and it shows that the result we picked up at Snetterton last month was no fluke. >“We’ve worked so hard this season and have taken large strides with the car; now we are making refinements to the package.

The car felt really good all day and I’ll be more than happy if the car I had today is the car I have for the remainder of the season.”
