If you're looking for ways to incorporate more water into your diet over the warmer months, some inspiration can always be useful. Certainly, if you've previously been used to drinking heavily-sweetened or caffeinated takeaway drinks, or heavily carbonated artificial drinks, it can be quite a jump to suddenly start drinking plain water again. Make like easy on yourself, and start experimenting. Simply having to drink eight glasses of plain water a day can feel tough at first, so find innovative ways of enjoying it. At work, head to the office water coolers and fill up a large jug of the icy cold stuff in the morning. Add some crushed ice or ice-cubes and a few mint sprigs, lemon or lime slices or even frozen berries. Most offices will have a fridge freezer to make some ice in, so why not speak to the boss about purchasing ice bags as part of a summer health promotion for staff? At midday with your lunch, why not try swapping your usual fruit or sugar drink with either a fresh smoothie or fresh juice diluted with water? You could also try a sugar-free cordial such as elderflower, and lime juice is also wonderfully refreshing when mixed with plain water. If you prefer hot drinks, there are plenty to experiment with; try herbal teas such as chamomile, white and green tea, peppermint, nettle, fennel and the various fruit blends around. There are so many to choose from, you'll be spoilt for choice. Why not create a mix of different teas in a box and pick a surprise each time?
