Stay alert this winter by drinking adequate water

There is no worse a feeling than dozing off at your desk during a slow afternoon in the run-up to the Christmas season, or feeling terribly tired at the train station or in your car during the long commute on a Monday morning. Happily, you can avoid this feeling by making sure you get enough sleep, by exercising regularly and by taking the very simple step of drinking more water! Water is a basic essential of life, which the human body uses to feed every internal chemical reaction. Water lubricates joints, helps blood flow, brings vital nutrients to muscles, helps regulate temperature, keeps skin moist and carries out a myriad other essential functions, such as supporting vital organs and allowing even the tiniest electrical impulses to take place in the brain. By simply drinking more water, people can make sure that they stay healthy. So head to the mains-fed water cooler in the kitchen at work in the morning, and fill up a jug that roughly equates to a litre of water. Sip it throughout the day to stay alert and bright and to allow your body to cleanse itself. You can also opt for hot drinks from the boilers or kettle. These will keep you feeling warm inside when you are heading out into the cold. When you pass water coolers in meeting rooms or reception areas you should take a small cup of water to stay hydrated on the go. It is very easy to ignore the body's signals when you are busy and it is too easy to ignore the need for water when you feel cold too! Remember, even when you are cold you need water, and all too often when you are reaching for the biscuit tin or a chocolate bar it is actually hydration that your body craves!
