Today (22nd April) is Earth Day and Waterlogic is proud of its commitment to reducing plastic waste through our mains-fed hydration solutions, which are helping to eliminate 23.8 billion single-use plastic bottles from production and subsequent waste each year.
Beginning in 1970, Earthday.org is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 75,000 partners in over 190 countries to drive positive action for our planet. One of its main areas of focus is changing human attitudes about and behavior toward plastics and reducing plastic pollution. Their End Plastic Pollution campaign helps people understand the impacts of plastic pollution on human and ecosystem health and how everyday actions can lessen the problem. Read more here.
The production and disposal of single-use plastic bottles continues to have a detrimental impact on our planet. Globally, one million plastic bottles are bought every minute with just 9% recycled. By 2050, it is estimated that our oceans will contain more plastic waste than fish, with 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfills taking more than 400 years to degrade.
What’s more, the life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions from plastic give rise to nearly 1.8 billion metric tons of CO2 a year; from petroleum extraction, manufacturing and transportation to incinerating and recycling. In fact, bottled water is 900 times more carbon-intensive than drinking mains-fed water.
