    A Beginner's Guide to Detoxing

We hear a lot about detoxing, but what is it exactly and why would we do it? Well, our bodies naturally 'detox' all the time through our normal bodily functions, but we can stress these by taking in too many chemicals, and damaging ingredients that make natural detoxification difficult. Alcohol, cigarette smoke, pollution, poor diet, lack of sleep, exercise... basically all the factors of modern life can stress the human system. So, by taking time to formally detox every so often, we can help our bodies regain their balance and often kick-start a healthier way of living. Detoxing can also support efforts to lose weight as an additional incentive! But how can we detox naturally? First, you don't need to buy expensive preparations, as your body is well equipped to do what it needs. Basic water will help your skin and liver in particular do their job, so fill up a big jug of water at the office water coolers in the morning, or opt for herbal teas at the hot water dispensers. Avoid caffeine during your detox, as it stresses the adrenal glands and dulls the skin. It also acts as a diuretic, which means that our bodies actually lose water. Instead, fill up with the pure stuff and eat more fruits and vegetables. Don't eat sugar, processed food or chemicals during your detox and instead fill up on natural fruits, supplemented with lean protein, nuts, seeds and healthy fats, such as olive oil and avocados. Get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air, walking where you can. Forget high intensity and stressful exercise during the detox process; try yoga instead for calming and meditative effects. Enjoy natural salts in your evening bath and experiment with essential oils for massage blends. You should very quickly notice the difference of your mini-detox in your looks and feeling of well-being.
